"We wanted a concrete pool in The Woodlands that fit a tight backyard. Liquid Therapy Pools walked the yard with us, laid out our options and gave us a clear proposal before work began. The crew kept us updated the whole way. Our kids barely leave the water now."

"Our pool in Spring was stained and rough on the feet, so we called about resurfacing. They talked us through color and finish options first, which meant no surprises later. The water looks clean and bright, and our weekends start at the pool again."

"Our Kingwood pool needed more than a patch job. Liquid Therapy Pools planned a full remodel and showed us the layout, scope and pricing up front. The crew respected our home and kept the site tidy. It feels like a brand-new backyard without starting over."
Landscaping & Hardscaping
Plants and Stonework That Frame the Pool
Landscaping and hardscaping around pools in North Houston. Plants that handle heat and clay, plus walkways and patios that tie the yard together. A pool on its own can look unfinished. The planting and stonework around it add shade, privacy and the sense that the whole yard was designed at once. We plan beds, paths and the pool deck so they fit each other, and the backyard stays easy to walk, use and keep tidy. Request a free consultation.
Shade and Privacy: The right plants block a neighbor's view and add shade without dropping leaves in the water. We plan them for full-grown size, not how they look in the nursery pot.
Built for Houston Heat and Clay: Plants around a pool have to handle long, hot summers and heavy clay soil. We favor ones that stay tidy, keep roots in check and won't turn into a weekly cleanup job.
Hardscape First, Plants Last: Walkways and patios go in before anything gets planted, so heavy equipment doesn't wreck new beds. Planning both together keeps drainage and foot traffic from fighting later.

Landscaping Around a Pool
Pool landscaping has its own rules. Keep heavy shedders back from the water, skip spiky plants along walkways and leave a gap between beds and the deck so mulch stays out of the pool. Tell us what you want to see from the water, whether that's shade, privacy or color, and we'll plan around it at a free consultation.
One Plan for the Whole Yard
Landscaping pulls the other pieces together. If your main need is a paved gathering area, see Pavers & Patios. Want a focal point? Look at Water Features or Fire Features & Firepits. Or bring the whole list. Tap Request a Consultation and we'll plan the yard as one project instead of a patchwork.
Landscape vs. Hardscape
Landscape
The living part of the yard: plants, trees, grass and mulch beds that add shade, privacy and softness.
Hardscape
The built part: patios, walkways, steps and seating areas where you walk, sit and gather.
Where They Meet
Planting beds beside the deck and paths through the green. That's where planning both together pays off.

Should hardscaping or landscaping be done first around a pool?
Hardscape first, plants last. Excavation, heavy equipment and grading will wreck anything planted early. Sort out drainage and run any lines for lighting, irrigation or gas before the pavers go down, then plant once the heavy work is done. Mark mature trees you want to keep at the start and fence off their root zones during construction.
What is the difference between landscaping and hardscaping?
Landscaping is the living part of the yard: plants, trees, grass and mulch beds. Hardscaping is the built part: patios, walkways, retaining walls, steps and outdoor kitchens. Around a pool, hardscape gives you places to walk and sit, and landscaping adds shade, privacy and softens all that stone. Plan both together so drainage, roots and foot traffic don't fight each other later.
What are the best plants to put around a pool?
Choose plants that stay tidy, keep their roots in check and handle Houston heat and heavy clay. Good poolside options include Gulf muhly grass, dwarf yaupon holly, dwarf palmetto and liriope. Keep heavy shedders like crape myrtles and oaks back from the water, and skip spiky plants like agave along walkways. Plan privacy plants for their full-grown width, not their size in the nursery pot.
