What drives the cost of a concrete pool?
Size and depth set the baseline. The big swings come from your site and the extras. Tight side-yard access, a sloped lot or long runs for gas, water and power all add cost before the pool takes shape. A spa, water features, a large deck or an outdoor kitchen each add their own line. When comparing quotes, check whether you're looking at a pool-only price or the full backyard.
Can a concrete pool work in a small backyard?
Yes. Concrete is the most flexible pool type for small yards because it can be built to almost any shape and size. Start with how you'll use it: a plunge pool for cooling off, a pool and spa combo, or a narrow lane for laps. Setbacks, easements and underground utilities set the real buildable area. Often a smaller pool with room for chairs beats a bigger pool with no deck.
What are the steps to building a concrete pool?
Design and permits come first. Then excavation, steel reinforcement and plumbing, followed by the concrete shell. After the shell come tile and coping, the pool deck, the equipment and electrical hookups, and the interior finish. Last, the pool is filled and the water is balanced during startup. Weather, inspections and mid-project design changes are the usual reasons a schedule slips.
